CAREER PATH

In recent years there has been a serious lack of students entering the surveying profession. This may be due to a lack of awareness or knowledge. However, there are a number of avenues to a career in surveying.

Road

You can apply to a survey company straight from school and start as a trainee. You will ideally need a good understanding of mathematics and an interest in geography. Your employer may then decide to send you on the TSA Introduction to Surveying course. If you want to know what this includes, click here .

  • You can go to college either full or part time and study a subject that includes surveying, such as Civil Engineering, perhaps even on day release from an employer.

Railway

  • You can go to one of the Universities which specialise in the teaching of surveying and take a degree course. Some universities now refer to this as Geomatics, a name that encompasses all aspects of surveying and measurement.

The TSA website  will provide you with details of our members and their locations.
